Medical rehabilitation is an application of complex medical rehabilitation measures (involving physiotherapy, physical therapy, occupational therapy, massage, social and psychological assistance, pharmacotherapy, a proper diet, and relevant trainings intended patients and their relatives, etc.).

Decisions regarding the expediency of application of medical rehabilitation measures to a patient are made by the treating physician and a physical medicine and rehabilitation physician. Patients can be referred for treatment in our Health and Spa Centre from both outpatient and inpatient treatment facilities to have inpatient or outpatient rehabilitation. Where a patient arrives with a referral for inpatient rehabilitation, the THIF covers the costs of the patient’s rehabilitation treatment and medications concerning the relevant disorder, as well as the costs of accommodation and catering. Where a patient arrives with a referral for outpatient rehabilitation, the THIF only covers rehabilitation treatment-related costs, and, if such a patient wishes to have accommodation and meals in our Health and Spa Centre, the patient himself/herself has to cover the accommodation and catering costs.

The procedure for issuing referrals for medical rehabilitation and health treatment is regulated by Order No. V-50 ‘On the organisation of medical rehabilitation and sanatorium (anti-relapse) treatment’ of the Minister of Health as of 17 January 2008. The order (including new wordings thereof) and other orders of the Minister of Health can be found at www.sam.lt

We would like to remind the patients who arrive for rehabilitation of the need to be issued/have the following documents:

  • An identity document;
  • A certificate issued by the Territorial Health Insurance Fund entitling to the compensation of your medical rehabilitation costs. The THIF issues the said certificate electronically, and a paper certificate is not required. You will be informed of your entitlement to the compensation of your rehabilitation costs by the physician who issues the respective referral;
  • An extract from medical documents (Form 027/a or an epicrisis) drawn up by your treating physician and issued via esveikata, the information system for health-related services.

Patients arriving for rehabilitation according to the certificate issued by the THIF are only required to pay for medical services provided by our Health and Spa Centre if they wish to have any additional medical treatments not related to the treatment of the disorder indicated in their referral and not covered from the Compulsory Health Insurance Fund (CHIF) budget, or if they request improved conditions of their accommodation in the Health and Spa Centre (e.g., to have a separate room).
